Grand Haven Michigan is a favorite destinations of sailors and power
boaters. You can boat from Lake Michigan up the Grand River with a gravel pits
at Bass Creek 17.3 miles from the mouth ,the end of the buoy channel, Grand
Rapids is another 23.5 miles upstream but water depth may be less then three
feet and suitable only for the smallest craft. The draw bridge US 31 (2.9 miles
from mouth) opens on the half hour except at rush hour. Current on river may
reach 3 to 5 MPH after heavy rains. The state park has spectacular beaches with
in a easy walk from town. Overnight docking is allowed along the board walk be
sure to have good size bumpers and chaffing gear on you dock lines
